Dreaming of Autumn in the Air, While I Write Poetry and Sing a Song

Fall has always been my favorite season. Mama use to tell me, “ You will notice our cat, Christal, our pup, Scrappy, the squirrels, and the birds will be chipper and frisky in the crisp autumn air.” She was right.
Fondly, I remember my twin brother, Zane, and I raking a huge pile of fallen, sunset-colored,large maple leaves and jumping in them with laughter. Collecting the most beautiful, vibrant, and large leaves, I would find a poster board, make a collage, and use colorful markers to write poetic phrases that came to mind when I thought of nature in the fall. My collage would become my autumn dècor for my room.
The pictures below of my vignettes, coffee tables, flower arrangements in special vases, and autumn tablescapes are mostly pieces I’ve collected, pieces that friends and family have given me, and a few new pieces that have been sprinkled in that are versatile.
Being an empty nester, I have been giving, donating, and finding special doodads I had forgotten about. Once I’m ready to decorate for a new season, holiday, or special occasion, I get everything out and group the doodads together, such as autumn flowers, autumn greenery, earth- toned vases, and many collected pumpkins.
From there, I turn on Norah Jones and begin to style the statement piece of my table, while thoughtfully placing other coordinating doodads to complement the flower arrangement. Harmony is felt in my purposeful and peaceful design.
Not only will my pup, Gibson, be chipper in the fall, but people will be too. Everyone will be thankful for the relief from the heat, and I sense people will have gratitude for harvest time with their family and friends.
